Snuff - Southland Grindcore Assault (2012)

Snuff is a grindcore band from Los Angeles, California, USA. Musically, they're most comparable to the mid-90s American grind sound of bands like Excruciating Terror, Enemy Soil, Plutocracy, Despise You Suppression, Benümb, etc. There's a definite high level of blistering and crushing heaviness with a healthy background layer of crust/hardcore. Lyrically, there's a little bit of a feeling mimicked from the style of Despise You but less in terms of politics and more violently blunt; that is, crime, violence, gang activity, drug war and overall misery. Although Snuff has been around for a little while, they still do not seem to be that known throughout the scene, so I hope these posts gets them some more deserved recognition. Southland Grindcore Assault is the first full-length CD from the band, which was co-released by Noise Possession and Out For Justice Records.

Whoresnation - Whoresnation LP (2012)

Whoresnation is a grindcore band from Besançon, France. Previously they played something closer old-style crustgrind, but since this LP, there's been more a 'modern grind' sort of sound. Bands like Nasum, Sayyadina, Afgrund, Splitter, Gadget, Cyness, The Arson Project, Noisear or Defeatist come to mind in terms of musical similarities. As with the above bands, there are quite a few dark melodious moments as well as some minimal death metal tones yet still delivering a vicious, raging, grinding and crusting assault of blasting. This is the first full-length from the band and was co-released on LP by a number of different labels. The band was kind enough to provide a free (or pay what you like) download of the full album.

Spawn From Deceit - At Least We Did Care (2011)

Spawn From Deceit is a grindcore band from Kokkola, Finland. Formed in 2009, the band plays along the lines of more 'modern' sounding grind; think of mostly newer death-metal-guitar-tone Scandinavian grind bands like Nasum, Rotten Sound, Sayyadina, Gadget, Afgrund, etc. However, SFD does not fit the confines of the sound entirely because they do come out having a unique, interesting and heavy sound with lots of fantastic crust punk and d-beat influence. Lyrically, SFD is undoubtedly a socially and politically aware band - not too far off from the style of the bands mentioned earlier - and I think it's done particularly well. At Least We Did Care is their first full-length release and I think there were no physical copies made, only free download available from the band's websites.

Mellow Harsher - Summer Tour 2012

Mellow Harsher is a grindcore / powerviolence band from Stoughton, Wisconsin, USA. They play absolutely spastic, pulverizing and relentless noises that can easily turn one's brain into a quirky pile of mush. In early August, they'll be embarking on what I believe is their first ever tour experience with a medium sized selection of American stops. So, I'm highly encouraging you to go check out this still fairly new and exciting band if you're in or around the area, have a blast and get your brain turned into a grindcore slurpee.

Six Brew Bantha - Six Brew Bantha LP (2012)

Six Brew Bantha is an vicious grindcore / powerviolence band from Victoria, B.C., Canada. They seriously play some of the most violent and destructive sounding noises you will ever hear out of Canada, comparing highly to the likes of other fast-as-fuck and powerviolence / fastcore leaning noise, such as Insect Warfare, Suppression, Gride, Lycanthrophy or Noisear, as well as sounding pretty similar to newer bands like Parlamentarisk Sodomi, Spoonful Of Vicodin, Pizza Hi-Five, The Afternoon Gentlemen, Suffering Mind, California Love, In Disgust, etc. Blazing speeds, unbelievably spastic song structures / tempo changes, pure unadulterated and relentless grinding brutality; SBB is no doubt some of the most ferocious grind you will hear. Here is their first full-length LP which was self-released by the band.

Sore Throat, Nausea & Headache Compilation #2 (2011)

The fantastic grindcore webzine, Sore Throat, Nausea & Headache, put out the second installment of their international compilation in 2011. It features tons more of the noisiest, most destructive and intensive bands in the scene today, and contains 64 tracks of pure ear-destruction. This is personally one of the best compilations I've heard in a little bit so please check it out and hopefully you discover some new noise, because there is no better way to do that than with a good old comp! And a bonus art history fact; the cover used is a very symbolic painting entitled 'Bruegel the Misanthrope' done by the infamous Dutch painter, Pieter Bruegel.

Violent Restitution - Violent Restitution LP (2012)

Violent Restitution - formally known as Degenerative Myelopathy and now, the album / song title by Razor - are a three-piece grindcore band from Vancouver, B.C., Canada. VR play an incredibly intensive, crushing, pumelling, crust-laden and relentless brand of grind, very much comparable to slightly more modern Americans bands, like Assück, Insect Warfare, Excruciating Terror, Phobia, Noisear, Plutocracy, In Disgust, Warfair?, etc. Lyrically, the band has a prevalent pro-vegan, animal rights and various socio-political themes. Also, VR is female-fronted and has a female guitarist, which is awesome and sadly, not something you see too much of the grind scene these days. Undoubtedly one of the best current grind bands in Canada right now! Here is their first full-length LP, which was released by three different Canadian labels; Mercy Of Slumber Records, Black Banana Records and What Is Making Us Sick Records.

Violent Restitution - Grate The State Tour 2012

Violent Restitution - formally known as Degenerative Myelopathy and now, the album / song title by Razor - are a heavy as fuck 3-piece mincegrind band from Vancouver, B.C., Canada. They're female-fronted and have a female guitarist, which is awesome and sadly, not something you see too much of the grind scene these days. Still a relatively new band - although they've been gigging quite a bit in B.C. - this will be be the first ever tour for the band, and I'm personally ecstatic that they've book as many dates for themselves as they have; my hope is that more people get into them after this tour, as they fucking rule. Anyway, one and a half months is plenty amount of time for you, the grinding fan, to go out and check out a ridiculously fantastic band, so I really really recommend you fucking DO IT! Dates are obviously subject to some change.
