Archagathus - Mincecore Fever (7'' Anthology 2005-2010) (2010)

Archagathus is a mincecore band from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. They sound exactly like Agathocles and Rot, to the finest detail; simple and catchy but heavy songs with two riffs maximum, blast beats, d-beats, polka beats, duel-vocal trade offs (one being a pitch-shifter) and made by socio-politically conscious and lovable punx. The only difference between Agathocles and Rot is that Archagathus have overly stupid yet amazing song titles that mostly have a ridiculous adjective and noun combination - like Untrustworthy Physician or Horrible Person, for example - and really hilarious lyrics to go with them. It's like mincing mad libs, almost.

Members of Archagathus also currently play in Violent Gorge, Skeleton, Loutish, Under Pressure, Head Hits Concrete, Wolbachia, Cetascean, Bachelor Weekend and used to play in Kursk. Dan runs Don't Fear The Night Tapes and Joe runs Aggressive Valley Tapes, both of which are fantastic labels / distros. Mincecore Forever compiles all of the split 7" EPs prior to 2010 and was released by the American, Haunted Hotel Records.

Cut Your Throat - Cut Your Throat (2006)

Cut Your Throat is a grindcore / mincecore band from Thessalonica, Greece. Formed in 2003, the band plays straight-ahead, crushing, aggressive and no bullshit mincing grind with plenty of crust / hardcore influence. Main influences and musical comparisons include Agathocles, Rot, Unholy Grave, Dahmer, Carcass Grinder, Mesrine, Denak, Archagathus, Sakatat, etc. One of the few mincing Greek bands, to my knowledge and they play the genre exceptionally well. Here is the first full-length record, which was self-released by the band themselves in 2006 and was not long ago made available for free download on their official website.

Mellow Harsher - Summer Tour 2012

Mellow Harsher is a grindcore / powerviolence band from Stoughton, Wisconsin, USA. They play absolutely spastic, pulverizing and relentless noises that can easily turn one's brain into a quirky pile of mush. In early August, they'll be embarking on what I believe is their first ever tour experience with a medium sized selection of American stops. Sesos Triturados - Te'ongue Mbo'iha (2010)

Sesos Triturados is a one-man goregrind band from somewhere in Paraguay. They play a heavily crust-infused and extremely noisy form of the genre comparable to newer bands like Autophagia, Dysmenorrheic Hemorrhage, Feculent Goretomb, Scatologic Madness Possession Hyperemesis or Streptococcus Pyogenes, but surely do not stray too far from classics like Dead Infection, Last Days Of Humanity or Regurgitate. Even though this release is obviously meant to be chaotic, sloppy and messy, which for the most part sounds excellent, there are some significant holes in the musicianship; yeah, that's usually a grinder's last concern but it just seems either off-time or like the musicians have difficulty keeping up with one another, as well as in the overall execution.

But this is still some exceptionally impressive noise for a one-man unit with real drums playing crust-goregrind from a country that has almost no existent grind scene. SxTx has tremendous potential and there's no doubt they will destroy on further coming releases, so make sure you keep an eye out for them! Te'ongue Mbo'iha was a demo CD-R that was the very first release from the band and came out on the Argentinian, Grinder Cirujano Records.

Bridge - Red Hands (2012)

Bridge is a powerviolence band from Orange County, California, USA. They play a very pulverizing, heavy and therefore, very grindy form of powerviolence. Musically comparable to a lot of newer powerviolence / fastcore, such as Mind Eraser, Coke Bust, Punch, Extortion, ACxDC, SFN, Sea Of Shit, Eddie Brock, The Afternoon Gentlemen as well as classics like Capitalist Casualties, Crossed Out and Lack Of Interest. Great catchy yet pulverizingly destructive songs, a raging female vocalist and all around negative life-hating vibes; definitely a fantastic band of the genre to keep your eye on. Red Hands is the first EP of the band which was released on tape on also 7" I think.

Dosa, Anal Massaker, Potabilizadora & Urinary Dysfunction - 4-Way Split CD-R (2006)

Dosa is a three-piece noisecore band from Perlis Indera Kayangan, Malaysia; Anal Massaker is a long-running noisecore band from somewhere in Germany; Potabilizadora is a long-running drum and bass noisecore two-piece band from somewhere in Spain; Urinary Dysfunction is a noisecore band from Aracaju, Sergipe, Brazil. Four noisecore greats of the scene; two from the old days and two newer ones, you figure out which is which. The split was released by the infamous Spanish label, R.O.N.F. Records.

Obliteração - Do Nada Ao Nada (2011)

Obliteração is a grindcore / mincecore three-piece band from Maringá, Brazil. Formed in 2011, the band plays straight-ahead, no bullshit oldschool aggressive mincing grindcore. Major influences and musical comparisons would be the noises of Agathocles, Unholy Grave, Rot, Dahmer, Denak, Subcut, Plague Rages and a handful of classic crust punk. Even though they're still fairly new, it's obvious they're going to be an important and widely known band in the scene pretty soon, so definitely keep your eye out for them. Do Nada Ao Nada is the very first release of the band; a demo CD-R released by Contra-Mão Records from Brazil, Noise Mesmo Records from Brazil and Human Discount Records from Italy.

Agathocles & RedSK - Split Tape (2012)

Agathocles need no introduction and RedSK is a one-man power electronics act - although doing more noisecore on this release - from Detroit, Michigan, USA. AGX deliver no surprises but almost entirely new songs and a noisy rehearsal-like feel to the recording on their side. RedSK and friends who collaborate on their side are doing straight-ahead oldschool sloppy grindcore / noisecore but with a nice layering of power electronics. The split was released by the American, Trashfuck Records, who is operated by Patrick of RedSK.

Mutilated Ear-Drum, Melanocetus Murrayi, Gore Galore & Decomposing Vomit - 4-Way Split Tape (2007)

Mutilated Ear-Drum is a one-man gorenoise band; Melanocetus Murrayi is a noisecore band; Gore Galore is a goregrind band; Decomposing Vomit is a noisecore. All bands are Greek but unfortunately, I have no idea of their specific locations. Fantastic harsh and putrid noises; a perfect sample of just some of anti-music extravaganzas occurring in the Greek scene. The split was released by the infamous Greek label, Septic Aroma Of Reeking Stench whom is operated by one of the members in Melanocetus Murrayi.

Streptococcus Pyogenes is a one-man pathological goregrind band from Athens, Greece; Birth is a goregrind band from St. Paul, Minnesota, USA; Hyperemesis is a one-man pathological goregrind band from Vancouver, B.C., Canada; Active Stenosis is a one-man pathological goregrind band from Thess / Niki, Greece (previously from Russia). All of the greatest punk-infused goregrind in the current scene with many fantastic covers of classic bands but the only complaint with this one is that it's too short. The split was self-released on CD-R by Nick from Streptococcus Pyogenes in 2012.

Decayed Race - Demo (2011)

Decayed Race is a powerviolence band from San Marcos, Texas, USA. They play in a darker vein of the genre, most comparable to Despise You or Hatred Surge. However, there are still many influences prevalent of more classic sounding powerviolence; notably, Crossed Out or even the not too distant mid-90s grinders, Excruciating Terror. A lot of genuinely pissed off and raging vibes that come through very cohesively and lyrically, themes dabble in the misery of daily living for the severely unprivileged in the West - both very much like the above mentioned bands, again particularly like Despise You. A slab of some seriously real and hateful powerviolence. This demo tape is the first release ever of the band, which was self-released and limited to 75 copies.

Oniku - Motsu (2010)

Oniku is a one-man goregrind band from somewhere in Japan. Formed in 2006, Oniku plays crushing and straight-ahead old-school goregrinding; taking major influence from Carcass, Regurgitate, Dead Infection as well as newer bands like Autophagia or Dysmenorrheic Hemorrhage. Also, a huge amount of crust / hardcore influence prevalent within the tunes. Despite this almost "cute" looking cover, Oniku is definitely one of the best newer goregrind bands going and are certainly one to keep an eye out for; delivering a full blast of disgusting, relentless and vomitous intensity. 'Motsu' was a CD-R single, which was self-released in 2010.

Oniku is a one-man goregrind band from somewhere in Japan. Formed in 2006, Oniku plays crushing and straight-ahead old-school goregrinding; taking major influence from Carcass, Regurgitate, Dead Infection as well as newer bands like Autophagia or Dysmenorrheic Hemorrhage. Also, a huge amount of crust / hardcore influence prevalent within the tunes. Despite this almost "cute" looking cover, Oniku is definitely one of the best newer goregrind bands going and are certainly one to keep an eye out for; delivering a full blast of disgusting, relentless and vomitous intensity. 'Eat My Flesh' is the first demo CD-R of the band, which was self-released in 2008.

Dysmenorrheic Hemorrhage - The Last Vapors (2004)

Dysmenorrheic Hemorrhage was a pathological one-man goregrind band from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. They're quite possibly one of the best and most authentic newer goregrind acts of all time; taking extremely precise influence from early bands, like Carcass, Dead Infection, Last Days Of Humanity, Regurgitate, Necrony, Ulcerous Phlegm, Pathologist, General Surgery, etc. and while at the same time being unique as well as taking the genre into even further intensive and pulverizing depths.

DxHx is blistering fast as well as exceptionally crusty and noisy; ranking them alongside the likes of other newer goregrind, such as Autophagia, Pulmonary Fibrosis, Oxidised Razor and are even comparable to the almighty Warsore. This is seriously some of the best goregrind on the entire planet, so I highly recommend them to anyone whose even got a remote curiosity about the genre or thinks a set idea of what goregrind is; you will not be disappointed. THIS is fucking goregrind. The Last Vapors was the last release ever from DxHx and was released by the now defunct Canadian Label, Intestine Stew Tapes.

Powercup & Pizza Hi-Five - Split 10" (2012)

Powercup is from Montreal, Quebec, Canada and Pizza Hi-Five is from Lima, Ohio, USA. Both bands play extremely crushing grindcore / mincecore and deliver an overly intensive, devastating, crusty, goofy and heavy face-pummeling grinding and mincing assault. Little to no sections on this record are in the slightest mellow or even mid-tempo; just non-stop intense blasting, d-beating and cartoon-like vocals, which is kept interesting by the slight influence of powerviolence-style song writing. Seriously phenomenal split with some of the greatest bands from the relatively recent pool of 'mince revival' in this vein. This split was co-released by a handful of great labels that discogs can tell you about here.

Six Brew Bantha is an vicious grindcore / powerviolence band from Victoria, B.C., Canada. They seriously play some of the most violent and destructive sounding noises you will ever hear out of Canada, comparing highly to the likes of other fast-as-fuck and powerviolence / fastcore leaning noise, such as Insect Warfare, Suppression, Gride, Lycanthrophy or Noisear, as well as sounding pretty similar to newer bands like Parlamentarisk Sodomi, Spoonful Of Vicodin, Pizza Hi-Five, The Afternoon Gentlemen, Suffering Mind, California Love, In Disgust, etc. Blazing speeds, unbelievably spastic song structures / tempo changes, pure unadulterated and relentless grinding brutality; SBB is no doubt some of the most ferocious grind you will hear. Here is their first full-length LP which was self-released by the band.

Active Stenosis & Pissdeads - Split CD-R (2009)

Active Stenosis was a one-man pathological gorenoise band from Thess / Niki, Greece and Pissdeads is a one-man noisecore band from Selyatino, Russia. Formally operated under the name Nx5 in Russia, Active Stenosis plays an absolutely relentless and devastating style of pure disgusting gorenoise filth with major influence coming from later Last Days Of Humanity, Dysmenorrheic Hemorrhage, Bacteriophagia, Biocyst, Urine Festival, Anal Birth, etc. Pissdeads play an old-school rendition of the noisecore genre, but they actually appear to have some riffs and minimal song structures, making it more extremely noisy grindcore than 'traditional 5-second song noisecore' per se. Definitely some exceptionally visceral, hateful and ear-destructive noises! This split was released by the Russian, Core Records and was limited to 68 copies.

Sore Throat, Nausea & Headache Compilation #2 (2011)

The fantastic grindcore webzine, Sore Throat, Nausea & Headache, put out the second installment of their international compilation in 2011. It features tons more of the noisiest, most destructive and intensive bands in the scene today, and contains 64 tracks of pure ear-destruction. This is personally one of the best compilations I've heard in a little bit so please check it out and hopefully you discover some new noise, because there is no better way to do that than with a good old comp! And a bonus art history fact; the cover used is a very symbolic painting entitled 'Bruegel the Misanthrope' done by the infamous Dutch painter, Pieter Bruegel.

Violent Restitution - Violent Restitution LP (2012)

Violent Restitution - formally known as Degenerative Myelopathy and now, the album / song title by Razor - are a three-piece grindcore band from Vancouver, B.C., Canada. VR play an incredibly intensive, crushing, pumelling, crust-laden and relentless brand of grind, very much comparable to slightly more modern Americans bands, like Assück, Insect Warfare, Excruciating Terror, Phobia, Noisear, Plutocracy, In Disgust, Warfair?, etc. Lyrically, the band has a prevalent pro-vegan, animal rights and various socio-political themes. Also, VR is female-fronted and has a female guitarist, which is awesome and sadly, not something you see too much of the grind scene these days. Undoubtedly one of the best current grind bands in Canada right now! Here is their first full-length LP, which was released by three different Canadian labels; Mercy Of Slumber Records, Black Banana Records and What Is Making Us Sick Records.

THECORPSEINTHECRAWLSPACE - Purulent Embryectomy (2009)

THECORPSEINTHECRAWLSPACE is a goregrind band from Russellville, Arkansas, USA. First off, this is one of the many projects of prolific basement goregrind artist, Bobby Maggard, so you can rightfully expect utterly disgusting and relentless goregrinding. Despite them often getting labelled as gorenoise, this is some of the most authentic early sounding goregrind out there; huge influence coming from the first two Carcass LP's in particular (right down to the song title-style), as well as Dead Infection, Necrony, Pathologist, Regurgitate and Ulcerous Phlegm.

Notable crust / hardcore influence, slight death metal layering, absolutely disgusting vocals and although there's a drum machine, it sounds incredibly realistic. Extremely well executed and highly recommended to anyone who knows and loves the early days of goregrind. Purulent Embryectomy was released by the infamous Greek label, Septic Aroma Of Reeking Stench.

Machetazo - Ultratumba (2006)

Machetazo is a legendary deathgrind band from A Coruña / Ferrol / Madrid, Spain. Formed in 1994, they mix and perfectly replicate the oldschool death metal and grindcore that arose during the late 80s and early 90s; taking major influence from bands like Carcass, Nihilist, Repulsion, Autopsy, Impetigo, Carnage, Grave, etc. Machetazo is undoubtedly one of the most authentic sounding bands out there who replicate this original incarnation of deathgrind. Ultratumba compiles all of the band's splits, EPs and various other smaller releases that came out before 2006 on one CD, and was released by the Spanish, Living Dead Society.

All three bands play a really thick and absolutely revolting style of the genre. The split was released by the Mexican, Alarma Records.

Kali - Kali EP (2009)

Kali is a powerviolence band from Red Deer, Alberta, Canada. They play a considerably unique form of the genre that equally and tastefully mixes the relentless intensity of early Westcoast bands, like Crossed Out and No Comment, but also lean toward the experimental and weird tones of modern bands like Iron Lung. It's extremely visceral, spastic, dark, unsettling, dissonant, pissed off as fuck and I can say with confidence that I and many others would consider this some of the best of the genre in this generation. This recording was originally released as the band's demo, but was re-released on 7" by the German, Idoneum Bello Records.

Blasted Pancreas is a pathological goregrind band from Hellas, Greece. Essentially, they play a very well done Lymphatic Phlegm worship; more dark, eerie and almost melodic sounding than noisy filth. So really, there's not a whole lot else to say; if you are a fan of Lymphatic Phlegm you will definitely like Blasted Pancreas. Carcinoma was the first full-length of the band.

This is a fantastic split with some of the most sickeningly vomitous and noisy bands in the current scene. The split was released by the Italian, No Tomorrow Records, and was limited to 100 copies.
